Endocrine System

The endocrine system is made up of glands and tissues that release hormones into the bloodstream. These hormones act as messengers, traveling through the body to help regulate important functions. Some hormones affect just one specific part of the body, while others influence many systems at once. They play key roles in things like growth, metabolism, and how cells use nutrients and energy. (Merck Veterinary Manual, 2023)

Endocrine disorders can develop for a few different reasons. Sometimes the body makes too much or too little of a hormone. Other times, the cells that are supposed to respond to hormones don’t work properly, or the body can’t clear hormones the way it should. Any of these issues can throw off the balance and lead to health problems. (Merck Veterinary Manual, 2023)

Along with the Fear-Free techniques and protocols we use during your pet’s visit, there are several simple steps you can take at home to help ease your pet’s stress before they even arrive. We’ve summarized these helpful tips in the handout(s) below, bringing together the key strategies in one convenient place!
