Ilderton Pet Hospital offers a complete complement of veterinary services for cats and dogs in the following areas:

Wellness Visits & Examinations

At Ilderton Pet Hospital in Ilderton, ON NOM 2AO, we believe that regular checkups and wellness exams are critical to your pets’ well-being. These wellness exams give us a chance to evaluate the overall health of your pet while also giving us a baseline for their unique bodies and tendencies.

Not only do these exams keep us up-to-date with your pets’ health, but they also allow us to detect potential problems before they become serious. This thorough checkup gives us vital information to help keep your pet healthy!

Preventative Care

We believe the best way to promote overall health is through preventative care. Regular checkups allow us to establish a baseline in your pets’ health and make us aware of any changes that may indicate future problems.

We highly recommend bringing your pet in for regular exams. Often health problems that go undetected can become more severe issues when left untreated, so checkups are important even when your pet appears healthy.

Vaccinations

At the Ilderton Pet Hospital, we believe that an individualized vaccination plan is best for your pet, as each animal may have a different lifestyle and different risk factors for infectious disease. Vaccination is an effective way to protect your pet from many types of illnesses. With your pet’s annual exam, we will discuss the core and optional vaccines which are available and review which may be best in your situation. As your pet’s lifestyle, health and well-being may change, we look at changing needs throughout their life and take into account their individual vaccination needs.

Parasite Prevention

Parasites may cause a number of health issues in our pets and depending on the kind of infection, may also pose additional risk to their family members. The risk for picking up parasites depends on your pet’s age, lifestyle, environment and contact with other animals or a contaminated environment. At the Ilderton Pet Hospital, we encourage annual fecal testing, either in the clinic or at our reference laboratory, to help us identify, prevent and treat any internal parasites which your pet may pick up and spread without clinical signs of illness.

Regular blood parasite testing for dogs helps us investigate infection with Heartworm as well as tick borne-illness such as Lyme disease, Ehrlichiosis and Anaplasmosis.

With every pediatric visit and annual wellness exam, individualized parasite prevention plans are discussed for each animal to determine what is best for their particular lifestyle, age and environment. Preventive plans may include early deworming in puppies and kittens, intestinal parasite prevention in young, adult and senior patients, Heartworm prevention in puppies, adult and senior dogs, and flea/tick and external parasite prevention in both dogs and cats. Parasite prevention can hinder these infections in your beloved pet and aid in long-term health and wellness.

Microchipping

At Ilderton Pet Hospital, we are happy to offer microchipping. Every year, thousands of pets go missing. Not knowing where your pet is or how to bring them back can be a helpless feeling. Microchipping is a simple procedure that implants a tiny chip underneath your pet’s skin. It is most often performed during a pet’s spay/neuter surgery appointment when requested, or during a pediatric appointment and is a fast procedure. Pets and their owners are registered with the microchip number and can add additional information online if desired. Microchips are scanned when a pet is found and assist in the safe retrieval of your pet if they are lost or wander away. Ask us how we can help!

Diagnostic Services

We have state-of-the-art diagnostic tools that allow our staff to diagnose your pet’s condition or illness better. It is our commitment to stay on the cutting edge of diagnostic technology.

Having these advanced diagnostic tools allows us to examine specific areas more carefully and provide a quicker and more accurate diagnosis.

Laboratory Services

With our laboratory machines and equipment, we are able to perform many diagnostic tests quickly and efficiently. Such tests include complete blood counts, blood chemistries, heartworm tests, leukemia and FIV tests, and urine and fecal testing. Being able to perform and run laboratory tests in-clinic allows us to diagnose your pets same day.

For more complex and extensive testing, we partner with an external laboratory where we are able to send out samples for bloodwork, urine, more advanced fecal testing, cytology, and pathology when warranted.

Radiology Services

We are proud to offer both digital dental radiology and full-body digital radiology. Radiology is a technique and diagnostic tool that we use to look inside the body in an entirely non-invasive way. X-rays allow us to create images of all the body’s organs.

This valuable diagnostic tool gives us a view of the internal organs in your pet’s body that we otherwise could not see, allowing our veterinarians to detect and prevent illness.

We are also excited to offer focused point-of-care ultrasound to guide fluid sample collection and quickly answer questions about your pet’s lungs, heart and abdomen.

Additional Diagnostics

In addition to the diagnostic services outlined above, we also have tonometry to aid in diagnosing various ocular diseases and microscopy to further investigate aspirates of masses and skin and ear cytology.

Surgical Services

Spay & Neuter

Spaying and neutering are important and necessary medical procedures that enhance the quality of your pets’ life. Not only does spaying and neutering have positive effects on your pets’ health, but it’s also vital to controlling the homeless pet population. We can discuss the appropriate timing for surgical spay and neuter based on the species, breed and age of your pet.

Soft Tissue Surgery

We offer an extensive variety of soft tissue surgeries including mass removal, cystotomy, gastrointestinal surgery, ocular and aural surgery, wound repair and treatment of soft tissue trauma, foreign body surgery, abdominal exploratory surgery and surgical biopsy.

Dental Care & Dentistry

At the Ilderton Pet Hospital, we love helping animals maintain good dental health! Dental concerns such as periodontal disease, dental fractures and tooth resorption are painful and can lead to health issues involving the heart, liver, and kidneys if left untreated. In fact, 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats over three years of age suffer from some form of dental disease, making it the most common pet health issue among our pet population. With every examination, a dental assessment is completed to assess for any new or developing dental disease and, if applicable, treatment recommendations are discussed. Individual dental assessments may also be scheduled if new problems arise.

Preventive measures such as tooth brushing, use of dental diets and other aids are discussed when appropriate. A Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment under general anesthesia may be recommended, both for preventive routine cleaning, as well as treatment of any painful conditions. Diagnostic digital dental X-ray is available and used to help determine the presence of infection, fracture, retained teeth or roots and other pathology. We offer surgical extractions for teeth that require removal.

Obesity is a common problem among pets and can lead to health problems. With proper diet and exercise, all pets should be able to meet their dietary needs and stay within a healthy weight range. We offer free weight checks to monitor our patient’s progress and ensure a safe and healthy weight loss program.

End-of-Life Care

Saying goodbye to your pet can be extremely difficult. The process can be emotionally and mentally draining. We don’t want you to be alone at the end stages of a pets’ life, and we promise to do everything we can to make it easier for you and your pet. Most of all, we promise to treat each case with compassionate and understanding care.

Knowing when the time is right can be a difficult choice. There are many factors that go into deciding to euthanize a pet, and it is a personal issue that differs from pet owner to pet owner. But every pet owner is inevitably faced with making that tough decision, and we want to be there alongside you to aid in any way we can.

For more information on end-of-life planning, quality-of-life assessment tools, and grief resources, please visit our End-of-Life Planning page or contact the clinic at 519-666-2288.
